ACWA Power Secures 2GW Wind Deal in Egypt

Key Figures & Findings: Saudi-listed ACWA Power has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) for a massive 2-gigawatt (GW) wind energy project in South Hurghada. Valued at SAR 8.6 billion ($2.29 billion), the project is Egypt’s largest wind energy initiative. Announced at the Egypt Energy Show 2025, Other Saudi firms, including Alfanar, FAS, and MOWAH, are involved in five renewable energy projects in Egypt, totaling 1.696 GW with a combined investment of nearly SAR 6.2 billion  ($1.65 billion).

Statistics & Insights: The Saudi-Egypt Electricity Interconnection Project, worth SAR 6.7 billion ($1.79 billion), aims to facilitate 3,000 MW of energy exchange and reinforce regional energy security.

Future Implications: This wind project could significantly expand Egypt’s renewable energy capacity, reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Construction is expected to commence in 2025, with completion anticipated by 2028.
