Altech, Energise Africa Partner on Solar

Key Figures & Findings: Altech, one of the leading off-grid solar companies in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has partnered with UK-based investment platform Energise Africa to launch a $637,000 retail bond aimed at expanding clean energy access across the country. The funds will be used to distribute 12,500 solar lanterns and 1,225 solar home systems to low-income households in off-grid regions, in a move designed to benefit 13,725 families. The initiative is co-financed by CEI Africa, a Swiss-backed facility that will provide match funding at a 2:1 ratio, tripling the impact of every investor contribution.

Statistics & Insights: The bond targets over 68,000 beneficiaries and offers investors an 8% annual return over a 36-month period, with interest disbursed twice a year. Each £500 invested will unlock £1,500 in matched funding.

Future Implications: If fully subscribed by Q4 2025, the initiative could scale Altech’s solar distribution model and establish a replicable financing blueprint for off-grid electrification in other African markets by 2026.
