Altech Expands Solar Access in DRC

Key Figures & Findings: Energise Africa has launched a $650,000 bond offer to support Altech Group SARL, a leading solar solutions provider in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The bond, which matures in 36 months and has an 8% annual interest rate, will finance the rollout of solar home systems and lanterns, targeting 79% of the DRC’s population without electricity. Altech's Pay-As-You-Go (PAYG) model makes solar power accessible, particularly in off-grid communities and conflict zones.

Statistics & Insights: Altech’s solar home systems have boosted economic activity for 85% of users, with 36% generating additional income. The initiative also improves education, as 64% of households report better study conditions for children. Women benefit significantly, with twice as many as men citing improved financial well-being and quality of life.

Future Implications: If fully funded, this initiative could help Altech reach its goal of impacting 50 million people by 2030. Expanding solar energy in the DRC may reduce reliance on expensive, polluting generators, fostering economic growth and sustainability.
