Amea Power Begins 50 MW Solar Project

Amea Power, a Dubai-based renewable energy developer, has begun construction on a 50 MW solar power plant in Bondoukou, Ivory Coast. This is Amea Power’s first operational project in the country, the $60 million project, developed by Amea Goutougo, is fully financed by FMO and DEG. Once operational, it will supply 85 GWh annually, enough to power 358,000 households. This is Amea Power’s first operational project in the country

Statistics & Insights:
Ivory Coast’s total installed solar capacity was 46 MW by 2023. In April 2024, a 37.5 MW solar plant was inaugurated, with an expansion underway to 80 MW. The government has outlined plans for 12 new solar projects totaling 678 MW by 2030, aiming to increase renewables to 45% of its electricity mix.

Future Implications: If successful, the Bondoukou project could accelerate private-sector investments in Ivory Coast’s renewable energy expansion, helping the country meet its 2030 clean energy targets.
