AMEA Power Expands Egypt’s Solar Capacity

Key Figures & Findings: AMEA Power, a Dubai-based renewable energy company, is set to invest $800 million in two major renewable energy projects in Egypt, bringing the company’s total capacity in the country to 2,000 MW of wind and solar power. The largest of the new ventures is a 1,000 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant paired with a 600 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Benban, Aswan, marking the largest solar PV and BESS project in Africa. Additionally, AMEA Power will expand its existing 500 MW Abydos solar project in Kom Ombo with a 300 MWh BESS. The agreements were finalized with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, cementing AMEA Power’s leadership in sustainable energy. These projects will create 2,500 jobs during peak construction and deliver clean energy to 769,800 households, cutting over 2.3 million tons of carbon emissions annually.

Statistics & Insights: The combined capacity of these projects will generate 2,000 MW of renewable energy, reinforced by 900 MWh of battery storage, significantly enhancing Egypt’s energy diversification efforts. AMEA Power is also expanding in South Africa with a 120 MW solar project, marking its first operational asset in the country.

Future Implications: These projects not only strengthen Egypt's renewable energy sector but also contribute to the country's goals of energy security and carbon reduction. Upon completion, they will play a key role in mitigating power outages while advancing Egypt’s clean energy transition.
