Astronergy Powers Algeria’s Solar Revolution
Key Figures & Findings: Astronergy, a global leader in photovoltaic (PV) modules, has secured contracts with China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE) and Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) to supply 1GW of its Astro N5 TOPCon solar modules to Algeria. These will be used in Algeria’s ambitious 2,000 MW solar power plant construction, a plan proposed by Sonelgaz, Algeria’s state-owned power utility. The plan includes 15 solar plants spread across 12 provinces, with Astronergy winning six major projects. Astronergy’s solar modules have already been successfully used in prominent African solar plants, such as Morocco’s Noor Ouarzazate and Egypt’s Benban.
Statistics & Insights: The 220MW Biskra project is the largest in Algeria’s solar plan and is expected to generate 400 million kWh annually, reducing 330,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Future Implications: These projects will significantly contribute to Algeria’s energy transition strategy, creating over 600 jobs and positioning Algeria as a key player in Africa's clean energy landscape.
