ATIDI Backs Sokodé Solar in Togo

Key Figures & Findings: The African Trade & Investment Development Insurance (ATIDI) has confirmed liquidity support for Togo’s 62 MW Sokodé Solar PV Project—the first Regional Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF)-backed initiative in West Africa. Developed by French utility EDF and infrastructure investor Meridiam, the project will supply electricity to the national utility CEET under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement. CEO Manuel Moses noted the project reflects ATIDI’s strategy to expand renewable energy access while reducing project financing risks.
Insights: The project includes an 11 km transmission line, will supply six months’ guaranteed revenue coverage via RLSF, and has secured funding from AfDB and Proparco. Togo currently imports 85% of its electricity and has 3.7 million people without access.
Future Implications: If construction proceeds as planned, the Sokodé plant could become Togo’s second-largest solar facility by 2026 and help the country reach 50% renewable energy by 2030. It would also play a key role in strengthening investor confidence and diversifying Togo’s power supply mix.
