Bahrain, China, UAE Back Egypt Plant

Key Figures & Findings: A multinational group of investors from Bahrain, China, Egypt, and the UAE has signed agreements to build the Atom Solar Project, a large-scale renewable energy manufacturing facility in New Alamein City’s Sokhna Industrial Zone. The consortium includes Bahraini-based Infinity Capital, Chinese producer JA Solar, Egyptian repair company AH Industrial Management, and UAE-headquartered Global South Utilities. The announcement was made in the presence of Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, reflecting Cairo’s effort to secure foreign investment into domestic clean energy industries.
Statistics & Insights: The $220 million factory is designed to produce 2GW of solar cells, 2GW of solar modules, and 1GWh of battery energy storage systems annually. Construction and trial operations are expected to span three years, with output primarily intended for export.
Future Implications: If completed by 2028, the facility could reduce reliance on single-market production while giving Egypt export capacity in solar technologies. It may also strengthen Egypt’s position as a contributor to international renewable energy markets.
