Burkina Faso Reopens Bids for Solar Projects

Key Figures & Findings: The Government of Burkina Faso has reissued a call for international bidders to submit prequalification documents for two significant solar-storage Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects: the Konéan and the Kodéni facilities. This initiative underscores Burkina Faso's commitment to enhancing its renewable energy capacity and addressing the nation's electricity demand. The country has been actively developing its solar infrastructure, with projects like the 38MW Kodeni Solar Power Station near Bobo-Dioulasso, which commenced operations in December 2023, and the 30MW Nagréongo Solar Power Station, commissioned in July 2022. 

Statistics & Insights: The Konéan project is planned to have a capacity of 75MWp coupled with a 75MWh storage system, while the Kodéni project will feature 45MWp/45MWh  of solar power with an equivalent storage capacity. These projects are part of Burkina Faso's broader strategy to increase its renewable energy footprint and reduce reliance on imported electricity. ​
