Côte d’Ivoire Opens 200 MW Solar Bid

Key Figures & Findings: Côte d’Ivoire’s Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy has launched two international tenders for solar PV plants—each with 100 MW capacity and 33 MWh of storage—located in Dabakala and Niakaramandougou. Structured under 25-year Independent Power Producer (IPP) concessions, the projects aim to attract private capital in support of the country’s clean energy ambitions. The move supports Côte d’Ivoire’s long-term goal of diversifying its grid and increasing energy reliability, particularly in northern regions underserved by existing infrastructure.

Statistics & Insights: As of 2023, Côte d’Ivoire’s installed generation capacity stood at 2,907 MW, with 69% of it thermal. Urban electricity access has risen to 94%, while overall national coverage reached 72.4%.

Future Implications: If successfully awarded and executed, these plants could come online by late 2026, easing grid constraints and helping Côte d’Ivoire reach its 45% renewable energy target by 2030.
