Cameroon Secures €55m for Rural Solar

Key Figures & Findings: Cameroon has secured a €55.4 million($64.6 million) loan from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) to advance the third phase of its rural solar electrification programme. The financing covers the installation of solar PV systems in 51 additional villages, forming part of a wider initiative targeting 200 rural communities nationwide. The project aims to extend clean, reliable energy to underserved populations while reducing dependence on hydropower, which dominates the national mix.

Future Implications: If successfully executed, this latest financing phase would expand off-grid solar access in remote communities, supporting Cameroon’s gradual diversification of its energy mix.
