Centum Re Expands Solar Power at Two Rivers

Key Figures & Findings:
Centum Real Estate (Centum Re) has partnered with Distributed Power Africa-Kenya (DPA-K) a subsidiary of Électricité de France (EDF), which specializes in providing renewable energy solutions, to double the solar power capacity at Two Rivers Complex in Nairobi. The expansion aims to enhance energy sustainability and reduce costs for businesses and residents within the Two Rivers International Finance and Innovation Centre (TRIFIC) Special Economic Zone. Kenneth Mbae, Managing Director of Centum Re, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the company’s goal of ensuring clean and affordable energy. Anthony Mburu, CEO of DPA-K, reiterated the project’s long-term benefits, including predictable energy pricing and increased resilience against power disruptions.
Statistics & Insights:
The solar expansion will increase Two Rivers Power Company's solar capacity from 1.2 megawatts (MW) to 3.2 MW, making it the largest rooftop solar installation for mixed-use developments in East Africa.
Future Implications:
By 2025, this project could significantly lower electricity costs and reduce dependence on the national grid, encouraging more commercial hubs to invest in solar power solutions. Additionally, the initiative may serve as a model for similar developments in Kenya, supporting the country’s broader renewable energy goals.
