Chad Opens 50MW Solar-Storage Site

Key Figures & Findings: Chad has inaugurated the 50 MW Noor Chad solar farm, paired with 5 MWh of battery storage, in the capital N’Djamena. Developed by Global South Utilities (GSU), a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi’s Resources Investment LTD, the project is equipped with 81,000 solar panels and 158 inverters. GSU CEO Ali Alshimmari said the project demonstrates how quickly African markets can advance when partnerships are effective and decisive.

Statistics & Insights: The facility will supply clean power to around 274,000 homes annually and cut 1.36 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over its lifetime. With storage capacity, it improves reliability in a country still facing high rates of energy poverty.

Future Implications: If replicated, Chad’s solar-storage model could set a pathway for wider adoption across Central Africa by 2030, enhancing both grid stability and climate resilience.

Quick Take: Chad has switched on a 50MW solar-storage plant, lighting up over 270,000 homes and signaling the country’s entry into large-scale clean power.
