China, Senegal Deepen Renewable Energy Ties

Key Figures & Findings: POWERCHINA, a state-owned engineering and construction powerhouse with over 10,000 international projects across 130 countries, has reinforced its strategic interest in West Africa’s renewable sector during Senegal’s top green energy expo in Dakar. At the request of Senegal’s Renewable Energy Agency (ASER), the company showcased its expertise in grid-scale solar, wind, and hydro solutions. POWERCHINA emphasized its role as a key player in delivering Belt and Road-aligned infrastructure that goes beyond EPC delivery, focusing instead on long-term operation, technology transfer, and local capacity building.
Statistics & Insights: The Dakar exhibition drew more than 1,500 participants from 25+ countries, with POWERCHINA being one of only three major Chinese firms represented. In Senegal alone, POWERCHINA is overseeing infrastructure contracts valued at over $500 million. New renewable tenders are expected by Q4 2025 under Senegal’s Plan d’Actions Prioritaires Ajusté et Accéléré (PAP2A).
Future Implications: If sustained, this partnership could lead to formal agreements on solar and wind project development by late 2025. Also, this move may boost bilateral cooperation as part of China-Senegal’s deepening energy and trade agenda
