CLASP, GEAPP Expand Energy Access

Key Figures & Findings:  CLASP, a leading international NGO focused on appliance energy efficiency, and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) have jointly committed $6.1 million to expand access to productive energy appliances in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ethiopia. The initiative, known as the Productive Use Financing Facility (PUFF), will support the distribution of income-generating, energy-efficient tools—such as solar-powered refrigerators, water pumps, and milling equipment—targeted at underserved communities and entrepreneurs. And also offer subsidies, grants, and technical assistance to manufacturers and service providers. According to CLASP’s Africa Director Emmanuel Aziebor, the project aims to enable energy access to translate directly into income growth and enterprise development.

Future Implications:  If implemented effectively, this program could strengthen small business resilience in peri-urban and rural regions by 2026, particularly among women and youth. Its alignment with the broader Mission 300 campaign could help advance Sub-Saharan Africa’s electrification goals by connecting 300 million people by 2030.
