Copper360 Acquires Wind Energy Project

Key Figures & Findings: Copper360, a growing copper producer in South Africa’s Northern Cape, has announced the acquisition of the 55MW Mulilo Springbok Wind Power (MSWP) project, advancing its renewable energy strategy. The project, acquired from Mulilo Renewable Project Developments, is in an advanced stage with feasibility studies, permits, and land leases already secured. This move aligns with Copper360’s strategy to secure energy independence and cost-effective renewable power for its operations.
Statistics & Insights: Beyond the initial R5 million ($261,000) purchase, Copper360 will pay R1 million ($52,000) per MW of installed capacity as the project progresses. The MSWP wind project is expected to complement Copper360’s operations by providing reliable and renewable energy to support its cluster mining model.
Future Implications: If successfully implemented, the MSWP project could enable Copper360 to reduce its energy costs, ensure energy security, and enhance its reputation as a green copper producer. The company’s wider renewable energy strategy may also include expanding into energy production or outsourcing to external providers, potentially transforming its business model by 2030.
