CRARN Gains Reliable Power Supply

Key Figures & Findings: In a symbolic show of cross-continental solidarity, the Akwa Ibom Women Association (AIWA), Houston Chapter, commissioned a 7.5-kilowatt solar system at the Child’s Right and Rehabilitation Network (CRARN) in Eket, Akwa Ibom State, on June 9, 2025. Led by President Mercy Odungide, the U.S.-based diaspora group delivered the project aimed at eliminating frequent power outages that affect children’s education and well-being at the facility. With the new solar system, the center enters a new phase of energy reliability, ushering in dignity, safety, and uninterrupted learning for its residents.

Statistics & Insights: The solar system marks the most significant energy intervention by AIWA, Houston Chapter, and their first full-scale renewable energy installation, which helps to eliminate blackouts at CRARN, where power failures previously interrupted learning and healthcare services.

Future Implications: If replicated across similar vulnerable care centers, solar mini-systems like this could significantly reduce reliance on diesel generators and enable more consistent service delivery across Akwa Ibom by 2027. AIWA’s intervention could also catalyze further diaspora-backed infrastructure investments in Nigeria’s underserved communities.
