Eco Wave Power Enters South Africa

Key Figures & Findings: Eco Wave Power has signed an agreement with Africa Great Future Development Ltd (AGFDL) to conduct a feasibility study for a wave energy power station at the Port of Ngqura in South Africa. This marks Eco Wave Power’s entry into the African market, following projects in Israel, the US, Portugal, Taiwan, and India. Founder and CEO Inna Braverman said the initiative aligns with the company’s global strategy to commercialize wave energy technology while addressing Africa’s energy challenges.

Statistics & Insights: The Port of Ngqura, one of South Africa’s most strategic deep-water ports, offers technical suitability for wave energy due to its breakwater infrastructure and ocean exposure. South Africa, has more than 2,800 kilometers of coastline with significant untapped wave energy potential.

Future Implications: If successful, the study could pave the way for Africa’s first commercial-scale wave energy project by 2026, helping diversify South Africa’s energy mix and strengthen energy security. The partnership may also open doors for further renewable energy investment in the region.
