Egypt, Germany Sign Wind Energy Pact

Key Figures & Findings: Egypt and Germany have inked a €118 million ($134 million) financial cooperation agreement aimed at bolstering Egypt’s education and wind energy sectors, announced by the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation on May 26, 2025. The grant component of €32 million will establish 25 Centers of Excellence and applied technology schools, focusing on workforce skills development in critical economic areas. Complementing this, €86 million—split between concessional financing and grants—will advance the interconnection of the ACWA Power 1 and 2 wind farms. These efforts are part of Egypt’s broader strategy to achieve a 42% share of renewable energy in its electricity mix by 2030.

Statistics & Insights: The ACWA Power projects will add 1,100 MW of wind capacity to Egypt’s grid, while the educational initiative enhances technical training for key economic sectors. The total value of bilateral debt swap agreements has now reached €297 million ($338 million).

Future Implications: If effectively implemented, the partnership could unlock sustained energy security, generate skilled employment opportunities, and pave the way for sustainable economic growth and deeper German-Egyptian ties. This initiative might also catalyze further investments in both the education and green energy sectors, shaping Egypt’s future energy landscape.
