Egypt’s First Utility-Scale Energy StorageProject

Key Figures & Findings: Sineng Electric, a global provider of solar and energy storage solutions, has partnered with Trina Solar to supply its central PCS energy storage solution to the 300MWh Abydos Battery Energy Storage Project in Kom Ombo, Aswan Governorate. This marks Egypt’s inaugural utility-scale energy storage initiative, signaling a significant advancement in North Africa’s renewable energy sector. The project is developed by AMEA Power and constructed by Energy China ZTPC.

Statistics & Insights: The 300MWh energy storage facility complements the existing 500MW Abydos solar power plant, enhancing the management of solar energy and supporting Egypt’s sustainable energy objectives. Sineng’s 5MW central PCS MV turnkey stations (EH-5000-HA-UD/33) are integral to the project’s infrastructure.

Future Implications: This project could serve as a model for future solar-plus-storage systems in the region, potentially improving energy security and grid stability. Sineng Electric’s involvement may also pave the way for further expansion of energy storage solutions across the Middle East and Africa.
