Egypt’s Ras Ghareb Wind Farm Launches Early

Key Figures & Findings: Orascom Construction, a leading Egyptian engineering and infrastructure firm, has started commercial operations at the expanded 650 MW Ras Ghareb wind farm six months ahead of schedule. The project is managed by Red Sea Wind Energy S.A.E., a consortium led by ENGIE (35%) alongside Orascom (25%), Toyota Tsusho (20%), and Eurus Energy (20%).This early delivery underlines the consortium’s operational strength and strategic commitment to Egypt’s clean energy goals.
Statistics & Insights: The Ras Ghareb wind farm aims to provide electricity to over 1 million households and is expected to eliminate 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. The project also includes 500 MW already online and an additional 150 MW coming online under a BOO model.
Future Implications: The Ras Ghareb wind complex could anchor Egypt’s ambitions to become a regional clean energy hub, especially as it targets 42% renewables by 2035. Also, with over 900 MW of expansion already in planning, the site may evolve into the Red Sea’s largest contiguous wind corridor, unlocking future green hydrogen exports and supporting transcontinental energy linkages under Egypt’s NWFE platform.
