Ezra Group Expands South Sudan’s Solar Power
Key Figures & Findings: South Sudan has officially inaugurated its first large-scale solar power plant, developed by Ezra Construction & Development Group Ltd. The 20 MW solar plant, combined with a 14 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), is expected to increase energy access, stabilize the grid, and reduce electricity costs. The launch event, held in Gondokoro, was attended by key government figures, including Vice President Taban Deng Gai, Minister of Energy and Dams Peter Marcello Nasir Jelenge, and Eritrea’s Ambassador to South Sudan Yohannes Teklemichael.
Statistics & Insights: The new facility will provide electricity to approximately 16,000 households in Juba, covering 19% of JEDCO’s distribution network. To maximize efficiency and optimize power flow, the project incorporates Huawei smart inverters and transformers.
Future Implications: If successfully expanded, this project could serve as a model for South Sudan’s renewable energy future, reducing reliance on thermal power. Further investments in solar infrastructure, including the upcoming Nisitu Solar Plant, could enhance grid stability and energy security.
