GameChange Solar Anchors Egypt’s 1GW Phase

Key Figures & Findings: GameChange Solar, a U.S.-based solar tracker firm, has announced its role in the second phase of Egypt’s Abydos solar-plus-storage project, marking a major milestone for Africa’s renewable energy transition. The company will supply its Genius Tracker™ 1P single-row system for the 1GW project led by UAE renewables developer AMEA Power, with China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC-ZTPC) managing engineering, procurement, and construction. This project follows a successful first phase. GameChange Solar’s involvement reflects its broader strategy to expand its international footprint, having recently scaled up its Saudi manufacturing facility and signed tracker supply deals across South America.

Statistics & Insights: The second phase includes 1GW of solar PV capacity paired with 600MWh of battery storage and was commissioned in May 2026.

Future Implications: If executed on schedule, the Abydos project could become Africa’s largest hybrid solar-storage facility by 2026. It would significantly bolster Egypt’s energy diversification efforts and attract further international investment into its clean energy sector.
