Gombe, China Partner on Solar Project
Key Figures & Findings: Gombe State Nigeria has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China 18th Engineering, a China Railway Construction Corporation subsidiary, for a 100MW solar energy project. Governor Inuwa Yahaya, during recent discussions with Chinese officials, emphasized the importance of this initiative to boost local power generation. This collaboration comes as Gombe seeks to leverage Nigeria’s new Electricity Act, which grants states the power to generate and distribute electricity independently, reducing dependency on the national grid.
Statistics & Insights: The solar project will cost an estimated $100 million, with China 18th Engineering expected to execute the project under high-quality standards. The project is set to provide consistent electricity supply
Future Implications. Once completed, the plant could reduce power outages significantly across Gombe and surrounding areas, with potential expansion by 2025
