Ignite Power Acquires ENGIE Energy Access

Key Figures & Findings: Abu Dhabi-based Ignite Power has signed a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire ENGIE Energy Access, creating Africa’s largest provider of distributed renewable energy (DRE) solutions. Operating under the new name "Ignite Energy Access," the combined entity will expand to 14 countries and serve over 15 million people. This acquisition represents Ignite’s fourth transaction in two years. Yariv Cohen, CEO of Ignite Power, called the deal a transformative milestone, combining ENGIE’s strong operational foundation with Ignite’s scalable, tech-driven model to accelerate sustainable energy access across Africa.

Statistics & Insights: The acquisition will more than double Ignite’s footprint, increasing its addressable market to over 250 million people. With $15 million recently secured from Afrigreen for its Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar projects, the combined entity will leverage advanced mobile payments, data analytics, and fleet management tools to deliver 50MW of deployed capacity and scale operations to connect 100 million people by 2030.

Future Implications: By leveraging economies of scale and operational excellence, Ignite Energy Access could set a new benchmark for renewable energy delivery in Africa and empower millions through clean, reliable electricity.
