Katsina Partners Ocean Solutions on Hydropower

Key Figures & Findings: Katsina State has formalized an agreement with Ocean Solutions Energie, a renewable energy firm based in France focusing on co-developing sustainable energy projects across Africa, to launch a mini hydroelectric power project at Danja Dam. This initiative was sealed through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Governor Dikko Radda in Paris. The project aimed at expanding access to electricity in response to significant power outages experienced in the region.

Statistics & Insights: The pilot hydropower station is expected to cost millions, providing energy for irrigation systems, a water treatment plant, households, and small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The initiative will utilize one of Katsina’s 43 dams to meet its renewable energy goals.

Future Implications: By late 2025, the project could serve as a replicable model for expanding hydropower to other dams in Katsina State, improving local energy reliability and contributing to Nigeria’s clean energy transition.
