L&T Expands Energy Projects in Africa

Key Figures & Findings: Larsen & Toubro (L&T), a prominent Indian multinational conglomerate engaged in various sectors, including engineering, construction, manufacturing, and technology has won new contracts across the Middle East and Africa through its Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) division. One of these contracts is establishing Kenya’s National System Control Centre. This facility aims to serve as a central hub for integrating various power sources, prioritizing electricity dispatch, and maintaining grid stability as Kenya incorporates more renewable energy and high-voltage interconnections. Additionally, the project will feature a backup energy management system in a separate location to enhance operational resilience.

Future Implications: If these projects proceed on schedule, Kenya’s new control center could significantly improve grid efficiency and stability by 2026, aiding the nation’s shift toward renewable energy.
