Longi Plans Algeria Solar Facility

Key Figures & Findings: Longi, one of the world’s leading photovoltaic module manufacturers, has expressed formal interest in establishing a solar panel manufacturing facility in Algeria. This proposal was made during a meeting with Algeria’s Ministry of Energy and Mining. Longi presented its cutting-edge back contact (BC) solar technology and discussed opportunities for localized production in line with Algeria’s industrial development and integration strategy. The Algerian government welcomed the proposal, praising its potential to add industrial value and support sustainable industrialization. Both parties explored strategic partnerships with local operators and research centers to support this initiative.

Future Implications: If realized, Longi’s manufacturing facility could significantly advance Algeria’s industrial and export development goals. Bilateral cooperation may also fast-track Algeria’s localization of the solar industry, enabling technology transfer and reducing the cost of solar deployment. Additionally, it may serve as a catalyst for job creation, innovation, and deeper integration with national renewable energy goals and Africa’s green energy supply chain.
