Mali, Orange Foundation Launch Solar Plant

Key Figures & Findings: Orange Foundation, in collaboration with the Yirwal Mopti Association, has commissioned a self-consumption solar power plant at Sominé Dolo Hospital in Mopti, central Mali. The project, funded with 335 million CFA francs (approximately $540,000), was unveiled in the presence of Health Minister Colonel Assa Badiallo Touré and Special Advisor Aguibou Dembélé. Orange Foundation Chair Sékou Dramé stated the project was crucial for ensuring uninterrupted power supply to essential services in the hospital. Huawei provided technical support, while the installation was delivered by energy contractor ERCOM.

Statistics & Insights: The 192 kWc solar installation includes LUNA batteries, Huawei inverters, a 300 kVA transformer, and a smart monitoring system. It will power critical hospital units such as operating rooms, ICUs, blood banks, and morgues.

Future Implications: If successfully maintained, the solar facility could serve as a model for off-grid healthcare electrification across Mali by 2026, reducing dependency on diesel and enhancing patient care reliability.
