Mozambique LNG, Pemba Expand Solar Lighting

Key Figures & Findings: Pemba Municipal Council and Mozambique LNG Foundation have entered a formal agreement to deploy 100 solar-powered streetlights across underserved neighborhoods in Pemba. The MoU aims to address night-time safety and traffic challenges in a city still grappling with infrastructure gaps. Mayor Satar Abdulgani underscored the significance of public lighting for mobility and security, while Mozambique LNG Foundation head Narjess Saidane noted that the initiative reflects the Foundation’s broader push for rapid, high-impact urban support.

Statistics & Insights: The solar initiative will see 100 light poles installed in high-priority zones with limited illumination. Deployment is expected to begin later in 2025, with the rollout covering traffic corridors and peripheral areas.

Future Implications: If successful, the project could catalyze a model for renewable-powered public infrastructure across other Mozambican cities. Additional support programs may follow in 2026, depending on municipal priorities and impact metrics.
