Mulilo’s 75 MW Solar Project Secured

Key Figures & Findings: South African independent power producer Mulilo has reached financial close on the 75 MW Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2 facility in the Northern Cape. The project was developed under an energy aggregator model with Etana Energy as the off-taker. In partnership with H1 Capital, it aims to enhance grid reliability and expand renewable energy access with its Kestrel Main Transmission Substation, a key element in unlocking the region's renewable energy potential.
Statistics & Insights: The Du Plessis Dam Solar PV2 project will generate approximately 248 GWh of electricity annually. Mulilo has now secured 660 MW of new renewable projects, complementing its existing 420 MW operational capacity.
Future Implications: If successful, the aggregator model could reshape energy trading in South Africa, providing businesses with more flexible and competitive power options. The project is set to accelerate South Africa’s energy transition, with grid integration expected to be a crucial next step.
