NDPHC, NASENI 20MW Industrial Solar Move

Key Figures & Findings: The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has unveiled a 20MW embedded solar project in partnership with NASENI and Haier Technologies to energize the Challawa Industrial Area in Kano State, a region deemed vital to Nigeria’s manufacturing output. The initiative reflects NDPHC’s shift from conventional grid supply to localized power deals under Nigeria’s transitioning electricity market. The project’s value lies not only in capacity but in the structure: private-sector alignment, decentralized delivery, and tariff competitiveness.
Statistics & Insights: The solar plant will supply 20MW of embedded power to Challawa’s industrial hub, with pricing set to undercut current grid tariffs. Development partners spent several months engineering a viable commercial framework following VP Shettima’s directive on 7 December 2024.
Future Implications: If completed by Q1 2026, this could become a national blueprint for embedded industrial electrification. The project may also accelerate Nigeria’s shift toward bilateral energy trading zones with direct generator-to-buyer transactions.
