NDPHC, NASENI, Haier Launch Kano Solar

Key Figures & Findings: The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) which manages Nigeria’s National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), has partnered with Nigeria’s National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and China’s Haier Technologies widely known for its consumer electronics, to deploy a 10MW solar power plant in Kano’s Challawa Industrial Area. Formalized under the #LightUpNigeria initiative, the Joint Development Agreement marks a strategic intervention aimed at energizing Nigeria’s industrial clusters through distributed solar infrastructure.

Statistics & Insights: The solar plant will supply affordable and clean energy to businesses in the Challawa area, helping reduce operating costs and increase productivity. The project is also part of broader industrial electrification efforts and aims to stimulate local economic growth.

Future Implications: If successfully executed, the plant could be operational by Q4 2025 and would serve as a template for solar-driven industrial zones across Nigeria. This partnership may also signal increased public-private collaboration in decentralizing power generation for Nigeria’s manufacturing sector.
