Nigeria, LONGi Advance Solar Lighting

Key Figures & Findings: The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) has launched a new solar street lighting program in partnership with Chinese solar manufacturer LONG, targeting a national deployment across both urban and rural areas. Announced as the “ECN Solar Street Light,” the initiative aligns with ECN’s mandate to promote sustainable infrastructure and off-grid energy access in underserved communities. All units will carry the ECN emblem as a regulatory requirement, ensuring standardization under the national energy policy.

Insights: The new system is to incorporate advanced solar modules with higher efficiency ratings than legacy units and will feature ECN’s official emblem for standardization compliance.

Future Implications: If executed in 2025, this program could enhance Nigeria’s energy efficiency goals, reduce fossil fuel reliance in public lighting, and serve as a template for future decentralized solar infrastructure by late 2026.
