Nigeria Partners on Clean Energy Access

Key Figures & Findings:
The Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA) a governmental agency under the Federal Ministry of Power focused on creating sustainable power solutions, recently advanced its clean energy mission by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four government agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and 19 Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs). This partnership aims to broaden energy access for underserved communities,  improving operational efficiency and reducing CO₂ emissions in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda under Nigeria’s 2023 Electricity Act.

Statistics & Insights:
The MoU supports the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) program, valued at $750 million, targeting off-grid power needs nationwide. By incorporating RESCOs, the REA aims to boost renewable energy capacity, offering affordable and scalable solutions to meet growing demand.

Future Implications:
This initiative could potentially expand renewable energy capacity across Nigeria, drawing in more private sector investments and contributing significantly to the nation's clean energy goals.
