Nigeria’s Virtuitis Solaris Expands Mini-Grid Rollout

Key Figures & Findings:
Virtuitis Solaris, a subsidiary of MOJEC International Holdings, has announced plans to construct 500 solar mini-grids across Nigeria within the next three years. The rollout will commence with 100 mini-grids in the first year and target at least 200,000 customers across 10 to 15 states. Chantelle Abdul, the Group Managing Director of MOJEC Group and CEO of Virtuitis Solaris, disclosed this initiative during a partnership agreement signing with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit in Tanzania.

Statistics & Insights:
As part of the World Bank-funded Nigeria Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-Up Programme (Nigeria DARES), Virtuitis Solaris aims to connect 400,000 households in underserved communities. This follows an October 2024 agreement with the Rural Electrification Agency, where Virtuitis was selected as one of 22 developers for decentralized renewable energy projects across nine states.

Future Implications:
If successful, this initiative could significantly reduce Nigeria’s electricity access gap, accelerating the adoption of distributed renewable energy. The IFC’s bridge financing support is expected to scale infrastructure investments, making clean, reliable power more accessible to off-grid communities.
