PREO Awards €4.26M for Clean Tech

Key Figures & Findings: PREO (Powering Renewable Energy Opportunities), co-delivered by the Carbon Trust and Energy 4 Impact under UK aid and IKEA Foundation backing, has awarded €4.26 million in grants across its sixth funding round. This round supports 22 African companies developing renewable-energy-based productive-use (PURE) solutions, ranging from food systems and clean cooking to e-mobility and water purification. These organisations, are poised to roll out tools like solar grain mills, IoT‑traced dryers, hybrid food carts, and battery‑swap networks.
Statistics & Insights: Each award ranges between €100,000 and €300,000 to pilot or scale solutions over 12–24 months.
Future Implications: If delivered effectively, these grants could help validate scalable, revenue-driven clean-energy models and mobilise larger private capital flows across sub‑Saharan Africa by 2026. They may also strengthen rural economies by integrating renewable energy solutions into agriculture, transport, and commercial services.
