RUBiSOL Powers Pharma Plant in Kenya

Key Figures & Findings: RUBiSOL, a joint venture between Solarise Africa and RUBiS Energy Kenya, has completed the commissioning of a 485 kWp rooftop solar system at B. Braun Pharmaceuticals’ facility, a subsidiary of Germany’s B. Braun Group, renowned for its medical and pharmaceutical products in Athi River, Machakos County, Kenya. The system aligns with the company’s goal of reducing environmental impact and improving energy reliability. This deployment also reflects the broader rise in commercial solar uptake across East Africa’s industrial sector.

Statistics & Insights: The solar setup includes 1,102 modules (440W) and six inverters totalling 485kWp, expected to save USD 1.94 million over its lifetime and cut 3,995.9 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The inverters are configured across multiple capacities—100 kW, 50 kW, and 33 kW—for optimal efficiency.

Future Implications: If similar systems are deployed more widely, decentralised solar could contribute to lowering industrial energy costs and emissions in Kenya in the years to come. The project could also signal increasing interest in sector-specific solar integration across pharmaceutical and manufacturing operations in East Africa.
