Rwanda’s First Ultra-Fast EV Charging Hub

Key Figures & Findings:
Kabisa, a leading electric mobility firm in East Africa, has launched Rwanda’s first ultra-fast EV charging hub at SP Kanombe station in Kigali. Supported by Ireme Invest, the Rwanda Green Fund, and the Rwanda Energy Group (REG), the facility boasts six charging bays with a capacity of up to 240 kW—significantly higher than the 7.43–22 kW found at most existing stations. Kabisa aims to accelerate EV adoption, particularly for commercial fleets, by slashing charging times from over an hour to just 15–25 minutes.

Statistics & Insights:
Rwanda’s EV-friendly policies, including tax exemptions and subsidized electricity tariffs, have fueled investments. Kabisa operates the country’s largest public EV charging network, with 26 stations, including seven at SP locations.

Future Implications:
The expansion of ultra-fast charging infrastructure could accelerate Rwanda’s transition to electric transport, cutting business costs by up to 80% and strengthening trade routes across East Africa.
