Senegal Secures $129M For Energy Access

Key Figures & Findings: Senegal has received $129 million as part of the regional Best Project, funded by the World Bank and African Development Bank, to improve energy access and storage technologies in West Africa. This project, with a $460 million budget, also includes Niger and Mauritania. Senegal, receiving the largest share, plans to electrify nearly half of the 2,000 localities targeted by the initiative. Senelec CEO Pape Toby Gaye emphasized the need for solutions to extend electricity access to remote regions.

Statistics & Insights: Senegal’s allocation represents nearly 28% of the project’s budget, with the goal of universal electrification by 2030. The Best Project aligns with the continental M300 initiative to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.

Future Implications: If executed effectively, Senegal could significantly improve rural electrification and strengthen its energy infrastructure, setting an example for regional energy development by 2030.
