Seriti Green Expands Wind Project

Key Figures & Findings: Seriti Green has commenced the third phase of its 900MW Ummbila Emoyeni wind complex in South Africa’s coal-heavy Mpumalanga province.—the country's historical coal heartland. This project, which will ultimately include five wind farms, is highly symbolic of the just energy transition and will partially power Seriti Resources' mining operations.
Statistics & Insights:
Capacity: The third phase adds 155 MW, bringing the total capacity under construction to 465 MW (out of a planned 900 MW).
Financing: This latest phase is backed by major South African banks: Standard Bank, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB), and ABSA.
Future Implications: If the full 900 MW complex is realized, it could permanently anchor the energy transition in the coal-rich region. The project will also demonstrate a viable model for private companies to both self-power their operations and sell surplus to the grid by 2026/2027.
