Sibaya Casino Installs Solar System

Key Figures & Findings: Sun International, a leading hospitality and leisure company in South Africa, has equipped its Sibaya Casino & Entertainment Kingdom near Durban with a 2.5 MW solar carport system. The solar system is installed by LTM Energy Group to cut operational costs and support Sun International’s sustainability strategy. The system covers 90% of the facility’s external parking lot, providing shade and power while reducing the casino’s reliance on diesel generators during load-shedding. Maintenance manager Ravin Sahadev emphasized that the plant contributes to energy efficiency while maintaining guest comfort and cost savings.

Statistics & Insights: The 2.5 MW plant will generate approximately 3.699 GWh annually, enough to offset a large portion of Sibaya’s electricity demand. With a projected lifespan of 25 years, the system could save millions in energy costs over its lifetime and significantly reduce annual emissions by replacing diesel usage during peak periods.

Future Implications: By 2027, the system could significantly decrease Sibaya’s grid dependency, aligning with broader national goals for emissions reduction and hospitality sector resilience. Also, if replicated across other Sun International properties, similar systems could collectively deliver 25 GWh of clean energy annually by 2030.
