Siemens, Egypt Partner on Wind Power

Key Figures & Findings: Egypt has signed a major wind energy agreement with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy a Spanish-German wind engineering firm to construct a 500MW wind farm in the Gulf of Suez, reinforcing the country’s push toward clean energy leadership in North Africa. Siemens will oversee the project’s construction, financing, and operations. The deal was formalized by EETC Chairperson Mona Rizk and Siemens Gamesa Egypt CEO Ayman Saad, and witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy views the project as critical to meeting its national energy diversification goals, while Siemens Gamesa described it as a continuation of their long-term investment in Egypt’s energy future.

Statistics & Insights: The wind farm will contribute to Egypt’s goal of sourcing 42% of its electricity from renewables by 2030 and 65% by 2040. Siemens Gamesa’s existing footprint in Egypt already accounts for 1.5GW of installed renewable capacity.

Future Implications: Once completed, the project could reduce Egypt’s carbon emissions and dependency on fossil fuels while positioning the Gulf of Suez as a strategic wind corridor by 2030. It may also encourage further private sector investment in Egypt’s renewable energy infrastructure.
