South Africa, AMEA Advance Klerksdorp Solar project

Key Figures & Findings: AMEA Power, alongside South African partners Ziyanda Energy and Dzimuzwo Energy, has reached a construction milestone with the installation of more than 81,000 solar panels on a 120 MW solar PV project in Klerksdorp, under South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPP) Bid Window 6. The initiative reflects both international and local investment, with government channels highlighting its role in strengthening the country’s transition away from coal.

Statistics & Insights: The development represents an investment of $120 million. Financing is being arranged through Standard Bank South Africa as the lead debt provider, with equity funding support from the Industrial Development Corporation.

Future Implications: If completed by 2026, the facility could strengthen South Africa’s renewable generation capacity while also deepening women-led participation in energy infrastructure. It may further support REIPPP’s broader goals of diversifying supply and reducing reliance on coal.
