South Africa NEOSUN Powers Durban Resort

Key Figures & Findings: NEOSUN Energy, a multinational solar developer that specializes in both off-grid and commercial use, operating across Africa and Asia, has completed a hybrid solar installation at a beachfront resort in Durban, South Africa. The project integrates a rooftop solar station, a solar carport system, and battery energy storage to support energy efficiency and sustainable operations. According to the company, the hybrid system offsets a significant portion of the resort’s energy demand while offering shade functionality through the carport system.
Statistics & Insights: The system features a total installed solar capacity of 103 kWp and 147 kWh of battery storage. It offsets up to 65% of the resort’s electricity use, reducing CO₂ emissions by approximately 95 tons annually.
Future Implications: If the model proves effective, NEOSUN could replicate similar hybrid systems in tourism hubs across Sub-Saharan Africa by 2026. The Durban project may also serve as a benchmark for energy cost savings and emissions reduction in hospitality-led solar investments.
