South Africa’s AJP Group Expands Solar Power

Key Figures & Findings: GreenYellow South Africa and AJP Group have partnered on a 4.6 MW solar PV project across 10 shopping malls in the East Rand, marking a major step toward energy efficiency in the commercial real estate sector. AJP Group, a key player in property management, will leverage GreenYellow’s expertise in renewable energy to reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions. The project includes rooftop and carport solar installations designed for self-consumption, eliminating reliance on coal-fired grid electricity.
Statistics & Insights: The solar PV system will generate 7.5 million kWh annually, amounting to 150 million kWh over the 20-year contract. With over 7,500 solar panels installed, the project will offset 6,952 tonnes of CO₂ per year, equivalent to planting 34,800 trees annually.
Future Implications: If successful, this initiative could lead to the broader adoption of solar PV systems in South Africa’s commercial real estate sector. The shift toward self-sustained renewable energy could significantly ease pressure on the national grid and lower property owners' long-term operational costs.
