Soventix Joins Kamoa Solar-Battery Project

Key Figures & Findings: Soventix GmbH, an international leader in solar energy solutions with operations across Africa, Europe, and Latin America, has partnered with CrossBoundary Energy and Sungrow to spearhead the delivery of inverters and transformers for the 222 MWp solar and 526 MWh battery storage project at Kamoa-Kakula Copper Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Announced at Intersolar 2025, this project is a flagship renewable initiative for the region, demonstrating Soventix’s strategic focus on clean energy innovation. CrossBoundary Energy, renowned for its distributed renewable energy projects across Africa, will own and operate the plant, with Kamoa Copper footing the energy costs.
Statistics & Insights: The facility will produce roughly 300,000 MWh of clean power annually, curbing carbon emissions by 78,750 tonnes per year and reinforcing renewable baseload capacity in mining operations.
Future Implications: By 2027, the Kamoa project is expected to serve as a blueprint for integrating large-scale renewables into mining operations, driving environmental and economic benefits while advancing DRC’s industrial growth and sustainability ambitions. It could also pave the way for local job creation and capacity-building in renewable energy sectors.
