Building on a Brighter Past: This isn't Cape Town's first foray into solar power. The city has already invested a significant R20.6 million in solar projects, showcasing its ongoing dedication to renewable energy. This latest venture builds upon that foundation, solidifying Cape Town's position as a leader in South Africa's clean energy revolution. The project consists of a massive 1.5MW solar power plant, strategically spread across various municipal buildings. This green giant will generate enough clean energy to power roughly 600 homes – a significant step towards reducing reliance on the national grid and saving on electricity costs. But the benefits go beyond immediate savings.
