Togo Secures Solar Energy Support

Key Figures & Findings: Togo has taken a bold step in its renewable energy goals by signing two major solar energy agreements with the Renewable Energy Leadership Program( RELP) an initiative designed to support the deployment of renewable energy projects, particularly in developing countries and HAIER a Chinese multinational corporation known for its diverse range of products, including renewable energy technologies during the inaugural West African Energy Cooperation Summit on December 5 in Lomé. These partnerships aim to bolster Togo’s renewable energy initiatives, including solar energy storage and photovoltaic technology advancements. RELP’s collaboration focuses on enhancing battery energy storage systems for existing and upcoming solar projects like Blitta, Sokodé, and Dapaong, while HAIER brings advanced technological support to expand Togo’s solar capacity.
Statistics & Insights: Togo currently generates over 130 MW from renewable energy sources. These new agreements aim to improve energy storage and distribution efficiency, supporting the expansion of solar projects.
Future Implications: By 2027, Togo could see improved energy storage capabilities across its solar plants, ensuring a more reliable renewable energy supply for its citizens. HAIER’s advanced photovoltaic technology, combined with RELP’s energy storage solutions, may strengthen the country’s efforts to achieve its goal of a 50% renewable energy mix, ensuring energy reliability and reducing dependency on non-renewable sources.
