Toyota Tsusho Expands Egypt’s Largest Wind Farm
Key Figures & Findings: Japanese energy giant Toyota Tsusho is expanding Egypt’s Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II by 150MW, bringing the total capacity to 650MW. The expansion includes 20 wind turbines, each generating 7.5MW, among the largest onshore turbines in the world. Developed by a consortium including Toyota Tsusho, Eurus Energy, Engie, and Orascom Construction, the project aligns with Egypt’s renewable energy goal of reaching 42% of total electricity generation.
Statistics & Insights: The wind farm’s expansion will be operational by August 2025, supplying power to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement. Combined with Gulf of Suez Wind Farm I, the total installed capacity in the area will reach 916.5MW.
Future Implications: If completed on schedule, the project could attract further investment, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Its success may also influence future large-scale wind developments across Africa.
